Business method patents are a highly controversial area of patent law. The monumental

decision, State Street Bank v Signature Financial Group, allowed business methods to be

patented. This paper will address the perspective of the United States with respect to business

method patents as well as the advantages and possible disadvantages the grant of this type of

patent may bring.
